I got a Game Genie in the mail from ebay today with no instruction booklet. i put codes in for DKC3 and press start, but then the screen just goes blank. If anyone knows the answer to my problem or knows a place where i can find an instruction booklet scanned on the internet then i would greatly apprectiate it. | Reply | |

I later bought another snes gamegenie from a gaming second hand store (that worked) and they told me that sometimes the gamegenie does not work on some versions of the games. Another person there told me that it only work on certain types of cartridges. I think the former is more believable.
I do not know if an instructions booklet will help you though. I was unable to find a scanned instruction booklet anyway.
When I purchased my first gamgegenie it did come with an instruction booklet but I returned it with the gamegenie when it did not work.
The only thing I can remember from it was that it had 'Rancoo' written all over it (possibly the name of some poor unfortunate kid who owned the thing) and that there was a 24-hour help line which wouldn't do you too much good seeing as how Galoob is kinda dead (Galoob is now owned by Hasbro).
The only thing I can tell you is, try it on other games, look for codes for a certain version of DKC3, TRY the phone number on the back of the game genie, or keep it as a non-functioning keepsake of how dubius ebay can be.

Now, its 200-odd page manual is in roughly that many pieces. After searching the scrambled heap I found the Troubleshooting section.
One of the listed problems was "Game does not appear after pressing start in code screen". Solution 1: Game is incompatible. I've yet to see this. I've used it on DKC and MegaMan X, for example. The other Solution is more likely: Dirt.
Second-hand games are often really dirty. Use a few cotton swabs and Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the connections on both the game and the game genie. To clean the connection where the game goes, use part of an older SNES cleaning kit.
An amusing note on the cleaning kits: Most of the NES games and some of the SNES games say "Do not clean with Benzene, Thinner, Alcohol or other such solvents". So what was the magical cleaning fluid in Nintendo's cleaning kits? Isopropyl Alcohol. Also, cotton swabs and the Alcohol do a better job of cleaning the games than the cleaning kits ever did.
Finally, I have seen the problem you mentioned: With my second-hand copy (purchased from Blockbuster) of Super Street Fighter 2 the screen would go black. After a dose of cotton the problem vanished. | Reply | | | | |
| Re: how do you get the game genie for snes to work? | | | POSTED BY: djoverlay | 2003-11-29 01:42 UTC | | YOUR DUMB!, MAKE SURE THE GAME IS CLEAN, THE GAME GENIE IS CLEAN, THE SNES CARTRIDGE TAKER IS CLEAN. if your not sure then just blow into it, not with your mouth directly but put like a think cloth over the chip peice then blow on it, you can blow directly if you like that whistle sound that comes out if you blow hard enough. then try it, and there are many techniques you can use to make it work, but since your not very videogame literate, i dont think you are going to find them. | Reply | | | | | |
